Hot Shots Tennis
Tennis Australia's junior program. Smaller courts, softer balls, big fun from age 3.
Hot Shots Tennis is Tennis Australia’s national program for kids aged 3 to 10 and up. It is the first step in the tennis pathway, built for the younger player who is either starting their tennis journey or working up through the skill levels. Play to learn.
Everything is scaled to the child: mini nets, shorter racquets, slower balls and coordination equipment matched to each stage. Kids learn to rally in weeks, not years, and the fun comes first. Classes are grouped by skill, with ages as a guide only.
The stages
Each Hot Shots Tennis stage has its own colour so kids and parents can see the pathway at a glance.
- Blue stage, ages 3–5. First steps. Throwing, catching, balance, movement and a very short racquet. Tennis disguised as play.
- Red stage, ages 4–7. A small court with a low net and a soft red ball that bounces slowly. Kids learn to swing, move and start rallying with a partner.
- Orange stage, ages 6–8. A three-quarter court with a slightly faster orange ball. Players build technique, rally longer, and grow their concentration and confidence in a group.
- Green stage, ages 8 and up. The full court with a green ball at three-quarter speed. Kids consolidate their strokes and swing patterns, learn the rules and scoring, and start to think about tactics.
From Green stage, most players move into our Junior Developer group on the full court.
